The Rules for The Wasatch Leather Academy

The rules are actually very simple; that doesn't mean that people have not had trouble keeping to them, however. There is a reason for every rule—even if those reasons are not automatically apparent to every student—and you will be expected to trust in the rules. Here are the rules written out for all students for later reference, if needed:

• You will be expected to be honest with your teachers, your classmates, and yourself; be proactive toward helping others through the course as well as diligent about getting yourself through. Backstabbing, gossip, and infighting among students will not be tolerated.
  Likewise, efforts to undermine current students or alumni will also not be tolerated.
• As previously mentioned, you will need to have a prenumbered notebook and keep notes in it. No, you cannot bring a laptop and type your notes; nor can you avoid taking notes by recording and electronically transcribing and printing them. Part of passing is showing that you have a complete journal with your notes, which will then belong to you forever.
• You will need a corset by the time the class starts corseting. You will be given ample notice to sew or acquire one. It’s suggested that if you're going to make your own, start early. Even if you decide you do not want to earn the associated reward for wearing the corset 23/7 for 30 days, you still need to have the corset or you will earn demerits until you do.
• You will be expected to be on time every week. If you are chronically late, it shows a lack of respect for your fellow students. You will earn a demerit when you are late or if you are absent.
• You will often have homework assignments to turn in at the start of class each week. If you cannot attend, turn your homework in ahead of time if possible or give it to a fellow classmate to turn in. If you miss turning in your homework, you will earn a demerit for each assignment until it is turned in.
• During class hours, students will refrain from swearing, use of derogatory slang, or otherwise salty language. This is, perhaps, the hardest rule that past students have struggled with. You're learning to be proper ladies and gentlemen in this class, and coarse language is unbecoming of both.
• If one of your classmates has been struggling and decides to drop out, if there has been insufficient effort on the part of the other students to assist them in remaining to complete the course, a permanent demerit is given to all remaining students.
  In the case of an unavoidable life-altering event such as medical emergency or moving away from the area before the end of the year, the other students will not be penalized in this manner.
• If you accumulate 10 demerits, you are regrettably done with the course that year. In the past, there have been students who have demerited out of class who were able to make up the coursework and allowed to return when their fellow classmates agreed. This is not likely to occur again in the future.
• Fear not, there is also a way to remove most of your demerits, which will be discussed thoroughly.
• Students must also decide upon a Yearly Goal to complete by the end of the course in order to graduate. This varies from person to person, but it should be something that you consider to be life-changing or that will greatly improve the BDSM-Leather community as a whole. You will have some time and guidance before you set your goal.

Why do the students each year have to choose a goal? Because when you do, you exceed your own expectations of who you are and what you are capable of.
